This brochure summarizes the work of USAID's Act to End NTDs | West Program, providing a big picture look at program activities and progress to date as we continue taking action to disrupt the damage of debilitating diseases of poverty. Built on a foundation of broad international cooperation and implemented by a strong consortium of deeply committed partners, led by FHI 360, Act | West works closely with the governments of 11 African countries to eliminate and control five of the world’s most common NTDs over the long term.

As Ministries of Education oversee the institutions that are critical platforms for deworming, health education, linkages to health services, and collaboration between education and health provide unique opportunities for NTD service delivery and sustainability. Ms. Dolegui will present approaches from Ghana, Senegal, and Sierra Leone and discuss opportunities to strengthen collaboration.

The FY2020 work plan outlines the activities that are expected to be undertaken in Sierra Leone in the next fiscal year through USAID's Act to End NTDs | West program (Act | West), managed by FHI 360 and implemented in Sierra Leone by Helen Keller International (HKI). Act | West partners in Sierra Leone are HKI as lead implementer with technical assistance from FHI 360, Deloitte, World Vision, and Americares. The work plan specifies Act | West partner responsibilities for program activities in FY2020 in Sierra Leone.

The FY2020 work plan outlines the activities that are expected to be undertaken in Ghana in the next fiscal year through USAID's Act to End NTDs | West program (Act | West), led and implemented in Ghana by FHI 360.

USAID's Act to End NTDs | West program will support the elimination of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. The program seeks to build upon the achievements of the END in Africa and ENVISION projects in West Africa in their efforts to eliminate lymphatic filariasis (LF) and trachoma as public health problems, and onchocerciasis (OV) in selected countries. It aims to enable Neglected Tropical Disease programs (NTDPs) to sustain treatment for long-term control programs for schistosomiasis (SCH), soil-transmitted helminths (STH) and OV and to mainstream NTDPs into the national health system. The Act to End NTDs | West FY2020 Work Plan is built upon the accumulated experience and lessons learned in NTD programs in West Africa and the current program’s first year of implementation, directly by FHI 360 or in collaboration with our partners.
