

Niger stopped mass drug administration (MDA) for lymphatic filariasis in 98% of endemic health districts (HDs); 53 out of 54 HDs as of FY22 (October 2021 – September 2022).

In FY22 (October 2021 – September 2022) Niger developed a plan to address districts with persistent and recrudescent trachoma with the support of Act | West, including twice annual MDA in certain health districts, continued focus on quality MDA implementation, and enhanced monitoring and evaluation strategies.

The national onchocerciasis elimination committee of Niger has determined that the country has successfully eliminated transmission following entomological and epidemiological surveys as of FY21 (October 2020 – September 2021). The country is developing a dossier to be submitted for verification to the World Health Organization. The country is poised to become the first country to eliminate onchocerciasis in Africa.
